The first four HatchMan remotely controlled hatch openers are now installed at one of Bolaks' feed barges. It is feed supplier EWOS who is the driving force to get this in place.
"With remote controlled hatch openers we can much more freely plan the logistics", says Erik Sørheim of EWOS.
The reason why EWOS would like to have hatch openers installed at their customer Bolaks' site is that the raft is only manned between 07 and 15 and the site is situated on the route so that it many times would be most effective to make the delivery at night. Manually receiving feed beyond normal working hours means additional personnel, cost and overtime, which is not very desirable for the customer. But now the hatches remote controlled from the boat, and thus can call happen at any time of day.
"This installation is in fact a win-win situation for everyone", says Erik Sørheim. "Bolaks avoid possibly extra work and overtime connected to night deliveries. While we in EWOS can more freely plan logistics and thereby are able serve more customers per day, in that we can make deliveries around the clock", he explains.
Fish farming sites that normally would have to have crew on site evenings and weekends to receive feed, will also be able to cut overtime costs associated with feed deliverance, if the remote controlled hatch openers are used. HSE gain is also evident, among other things operations on the barge in all weathers and at all times, and the need to enter vessels and raft is reduced.
The HatchMan installation for four hatches was installed at Bolaks during week 51. There are two coordinated actuators, and a set of signal lights for each hatch. The silo has also a level alert installed, warning (with a light) when the feed silo is almost full. The hatch openers areinstalled in such a way that the hatches can be released and will open completely (as prior to HatchMan installation), in case of it's required to fill silo with bags, or in case of other needs.
"We see that this product can be very useful to both us and our customers", Sørheim concludes.
HatchMan hatch openers are developed and manufactured by Storvik Aqua AS in cooperation with EWOS.
